Specialities that ensure our uniqueness
The Strudel Barn and Apartment House is committed to local specialities, oven-baked and traditional dishes. We are proud to have 3 beehive ovens and 2 wood-burning stoves which have their place in modern kitchen technologies.
Our gastronomic specialities are oven-baked dishes with provincial flavours and the tricks of traditional cooking. We consider preserving gastronomic customs and traditions highly important. We strive to offer a diverse variety of choices. You can always find seasonal dishes and drinks besides the “great classics” in our menu.
We are also devoted to the wines of Neszmély, which are the “children” of the surrounding hills, the Ászár-Neszmély wine region. Among our offers you can find Hungarian roasted coffee, Hungarian fruit distillate, beer, … just to name a few.
SPECIAL EVENT VENUES
Our Barn and the wine cellar that belongs to it provides unique provincial atmosphere and the magic of nature’s proximity. Unique, traditional hayloft, original furniture, artisan lamps and a wine press from the 1800s all have their place here. We serve the dishes on wooden platters, milk jugs and honey jars, all which evoke the atmosphere of our grandmothers’ kitchen, where it is just nice to have a little rest, away from the noise of the rushing world.
Past in the present, recalling culture to life (“live village culture”) – nostalgia and novelty at the same time characterises us. Be a part of it yourself!
- OVEN-BAKED STRUDEL, FRIED DOUGH (LANGALLÓ) OR CROISSANT BAKING PACKAGE
During the program, you can take a look into the secrets of making oven dishes, starting from kneading through unrolling to the baking itself. After the preparations everybody can make their own creation. If you are interested and would like to, you can even help in heating the oven!
- Making oven-baked pizza
During the program, you knead the dough and make your own pizza sauce. While the dough is rising, you can get familiar with the herbs, vegetables in the kitchen and herb garden, familiarize with forms, flavours, scents and possibilities of use. After this everybody makes their own pizza.
- Making butter and cottage-cheese
In the course of the program, we make butter, which we can taste with the oven baked bread at the end of the program. During the day, you learn the process of making cheese and sour cream and you can see the old equipment people used in dairy processing.
- Making spiral pasta and cooking soup
In the course of the program, the children can make their own soup garnish in the traditional way. They can of course take home spiral pasta when they are ready. They cook their rich soup together according to the chef’s instructions and after this they can participate in a playful competition: they have to eat the soup either blindfolded, or with a wooden spoon (test of tolerance – to learn about the everyday difficulties our fellow humans with limited abilities have to struggle).

THE PROXIMITY OF THE RIVER BANK, THE VÉRTES AND GERECSE MOUNTAINS
In close proximity to our establishment you can find the beautiful natural endowments of the Danube river bank and the Gerecse mountain. The infinite tranquillity emanating from nature, the chirping of birds and the gentle rocking of the river are all available for our guests.
The establishment is easily accessible by any vehicle on road and by ship, or boat on the river, thanks to the infrastructural conditions.
The features of the Gerecse mountain make it a paradise for hikers, nature lovers and hunters.
